Mediate Effective Resolutions to Disability Disputes

Purpose: To educate conflict resolution practitioners about how to effectively mediate disputes arising from disability accommodation requests. This 2-day course is designed based on the recommendations of the ADA Mediation Guidelines.

Prerequisite: 40-hour basic mediation training

Learning Objectives:
​

By the end of the workshop, you will leave with…
  1. An enhanced awareness of people with disabilities; the appropriate ways to engage with them; and the impact of the disability on the person’s functioning
  2. A set of guidelines and resources to manage mediation cases involving disability-related disputes
  3. A 8-step convening process to use while preparing parties for an accessible mediation
  4. A better understanding of the disability laws that protect the rights of people with disabilities
  5. An accommodation design process to use while facilitating the mediation discussion, if the discuss involves an accommodation issue
  6. Greater confidence to address and effectively facilitate disability accommodation disputes
  7. A plan for next steps
